New ECOTOX podcast to celebrate World Environment Day

To celebrate World Environment Day, professor Ricardo Beiras had an interview on the effects of plastics on the marine environment. Escaping from alarmist messages, he assures that the ingestion of fish and shellfish "is not the main route of transmission of microplastics to human beings", although he warns of the risk that the chemical components and additives pose to organisms. Polymers "are present in all areas of our lives, not just in the sea". He further draws attention to the need to maintain a balance "between raising awareness of the problem of the presence of plastics in seas and oceans with sending worrying messages about food safety".
